Combined Cultural Tour for Kathmandu and Lhasa (Tibet)

This trip highlights the two ancient heritage valleys; Kathmandu and Lhasa. After exploring the old temples and city squares of Kathmandu, the panoramic Himalayan flights will take you to Lhasa (Tibet) by crossing the world's highest peaks (view W/P). You will be met by our representative/local guide at Lhasa airport and transfer to city (2 hours, 95km.from the airport). Check-in to your hotel and take full rest for acclimatization. Lhasa, a city of Sunshine (more than 3000 hrs Sunshine a year), is the capital of Tibet and center of the Tibetan culture. The historical Potala Palace, the Palace of Dalai Lama is glorious and impressive. The guided sightseeing tour of Lhasa includes; the famous Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazaar, Sera and Drepung monasteries, Norbulingkha and Nunnery, etc. On completion of the Lhasa trip, you will take another scenic flight back to Kathmandu and spend two more nights in the valley before you take your trip back home or next destination.

Fly KATHMANDU – LHASA (3600 m): transfer to Kathmandu airport for your flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival in Lhasa airport, your guide will pick you up and transfer to Lhasa city, 95km. Check in to the hotel and rest for acclimatization.

LHASA:  Visit POTALA PALACE, JOKHANG TEMPLE and BARKHOR MARKET - morning visit Potala- one of the most famous architectural works of Tibet is erected on top of Red Hill in Lhasa . In the 7th Century after the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo's marriage with Princess Wencheng of the Tang court, the Palace was build for meditation. In the mid 17th century it was rebuilt by the 5th Dalai Lama to its present size and ever since it became the winter palace of Dalai Lamas. The construction took fifty years from its beginning to completion.

The tour continues to Jokhang Temple-situated in the center of the old section of Lhasa. It was built in the mid 7th century A. D. and later extended by successive rulers; it has now become a gigantic architectural complex. Located in the east, facing to west, it is a four-storied temple with splendid golden temple. Late afternoon explore around the famous Barkhor market (shopping street)…O/N

LHASA:  Visit DREPUNG MONASTERY, SERA MONASTERY and NORBULINGKA - morning visit Drepung - Situated 5 km distance to the western suburb of Lhasa at foot of Mt Ganpoi Ute. Drepung monastery was founded in 146 by Jamyang Choje a disciple of Tsongkapa the founder of Gelukpa Sect. The monastery occupying an area of 250000 square meters with a fixed number of 7700 monks is the largest monastery in Tibet. The monastery keeps plentiful historical relics, Buddhist scriptures arts and crafts.

The tour continues to sera monastery-situated 3 km distance to the northern suburb of Lhasa. Sera monastery was founded in 1419 by Jamchen Choje a disciple of Tsongkapa, the Gelugpa sect. The monastery is erected grandly at a mountain slope with a colorful architecture. Sera monastery together with Ganden and Dprerung monastery in Lhasa are known as the three great monasteries in Tibet. Also visit Norbulingka, the summer Palace of Dalai Lama. O/N

LHASA: full day excursion trip to GANDEN MONASTERY and KYICHU VALLEY – Ganden Monastery is about 60-km east of Lhasa. It is one of the three great monasteries in Lhasa and one of the six great monasteries of Gelug Sect. Ganden means happiness and contentedness in Tibetan. The Ganden Monastery was built in early 15th century under the supervision of Zonggaba, the founder of the Gelug Sect. The main buildings include the Cohen Hall, the Chamber of Zonggaba and the College of Yangbajian. The day trip driving through Kyichu River Valley will be scenic one.

TRIP COST INCLUDES:

·          All airport and ground transfers by private car/coach.

·          Nepal visa and re-entry visa (suggest obtaining double entry visa at your home country).

·          Meals (lunch/dinner) and all drinks/ bar bills.

·          Any insurance coverage, tipping, and personal nature expenses.

·          Any extra cost (for porters, vehicle and hotels) incurring due to unavoidable circumstances such as landslide, road blockage, flood, snow block, political unrest etc.

·          Final booking with passport copies and full contact address, are requested to provide us as early as possible for a smooth arrangement and all booking in advance.

·          Advance Payment: 30% trip payment is required to be made at the time of booking the trip or sent by bank transfer to our bank A/C. Balance of payment due upon arrival in Kathmandu (in Cash).

·          Cancellation: 50 % will be charged as cancellation fee if you cancel trip within 10 days prior to start of tour. No refund, thereafter, also for no-shows, delay arrival or whatsoever the reasons.

·          The tour costs, Tibet Visa regulations, flight timing are may be subject to change without prior notice.

TRAVEL KIT (THINGS TO PACK):

Since the trip include high altitude over 3500 meters, you should bring: - at least a pair of  warm jackets, good shoes, medicine of high altitude and stomach disorder, other personal belongings, toiletries, water bottle, rain coat, flash light, sunglasses, at least 6 months valid passport (with some copies of passport size photos for visa and permits) and other personal values, etc.
